Additionally, we would be grateful if you have a few moments for our short crowdfunding survey here:
We are thrilled that our temporary artwork located on the harbor in Copenhagen has now been granted permanence following a historic decision by the Danish Government. However, creating permanent weatherproof monuments in bronze is very expensive and as an artist-driven project we need your support.
Our mission is to raise enough funds to install a version of I AM QUEEN MARY in Copenhagen and on Saint Croix- twin monuments connecting nations and narratives.
We invite you to take part in our global crowdfunding campaign starting AUGUST 27, 2021. We have already received interest and support from governments and private agencies, however, much more is needed. We are honoring the many requests that we have had from the very beginning of this project-people asking how could they support us. Now here is your chance. Join us on our mission to change whose stories get to be told in the public space!
Sincerely,
La Vaughn Belle and Jeannette Ehlers

I AM QUEEN MARY
- is a public art project by two artists from different sides of the Atlantic, but connected by the shared colonial history of Denmark of the US Virgin Islands. The first temporary version of the monument was inaugurated in March 2018 in Copenhagen generating worldwide attention as the first monument to a Black woman in Denmark. Permanent permission was recently granted by the Danish government, allowing the fundraising for a permanent monument in Copenhagen to begin. The crowdsource funding campaign will also ensure that a version is made in the Virgin Islands, completing the original intention of the project which began in 2015. More information can be found throughout the website or by contacting info@aiamqueenmary.com.
